A Good Sense for the Future: VOSS Temperature Sensing Solutions

Posted 4/25/2019

VOSS quick connect systems with integrated temperature sensors are highly accurate, reliable, cost-effective and provide the data you need to monitor temperatures. In recent years, we’ve introduced a variety of temperature-sensing solutions and our products stand out for their:

  • Excellent measuring accuracy
  • Outstanding long-term reliability
  • Incredibly compact size
  • Higher integration levels

We use negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors to create low-power thermostats. They can be mounted to T-fittings within the lines, or directly to proven VOSS quick connector systems, where temperatures are measured at input/output points. This cohesive design makes our temperature-sensing solutions a cost-effective, high-precision option for enclosed housing temperature monitoring.

Additional benefits of all VOSS temperature sensors include:

  • Amplified functional range of lines and components
  • Optimized system behavior
  • Simplified assembly and installation
  • Reduced response time
  • Limited construction components
  • Reduced component weight
  • Enhanced stability and reliability
  • Improved design flexibility with customized features

Three of the most popular VOSS temperature-sensing solutions include the integrated temperature sensor, the quick connector 246NX, and the quick connector 271.

VOSS Quick Connector 246NX

While oil may be an engine’s lifeblood, coolant helps dispel heat. Without coolant, the engine would overheat quickly, causing mechanical breakdown and engine failure. And an engine that’s too hot – or too cold – can negatively impact fuel flow.

Diesel fuel should flow at an optimal temperature to preserve the fuel pump and electronic control unit. Fuel that flows poorly can cause the fuel pump to work harder, failing sooner. And fuel that’s too hot can negatively impact fuel efficiency, damaging the electronic control unit over time. That’s why VOSS created quick connector 246NX with an integrated temperature sensor: to help you monitor fuel temperature.

Quick connector 246NX with an integrated temperature sensor measures temperatures in fuel and coolant systems between -40°C to +120°C, providing an accuracy of ±1 percent at 25°C. Its small package size makes it easy to plug into an existing 246NX port. You can also mount it to an existing T-fitting, or another component with the 246NX contour.

Key properties include:

  • Application: Fuel and coolant systems
  • Accuracy: ±1 percent at 25°C
  • Sensor operating temperature: -40°C to +120°C
  • Resistance at 25°C: 10,000 ohms
  • Electrical connection: MLK 1.2
  • Sensor housing material: Brass (for prototypes)
  • Terminal material: Silver-plated (for prototypes)
  • Package size: Varies
  • Overall weight: 26 g
  • Production: Prototype

VOSS Quick Connector 271

Just like quick connector 246NX, VOSS quick connector 271 was created with an integrated temperature sensor to help you monitor coolant temperature.

Quick connector 271 measures temperatures in thermal management and coolant systems between -40°C to +120°C, providing an accuracy of ±1 percent at 25°C. Its small package size makes it easy to plug into an existing 271 port. It can also be mounted in an existing T-fitting, or another component with the 271 contour.

Key properties include:

  • Application: Thermal management and coolant systems
  • Accuracy: ±1 percent at 25°C
  • Sensor operating temperature: -40°C to +120°C
  • Resistance at 25°C: 10,000 ohms
  • Electrical connection: MLK 1.2
  • Sensor housing material: Brass (for prototypes)
  • Terminal material: Silver-plated (for prototypes)
  • Package size: Varies
  • Overall weight: 14.5 g
  • Production: Prototype

Integrated Temperature Sensor

TM Temp Sensor Integration

Controlling temperature in vehicle thermal management is challenging, so we designed the integrated temperature sensor to help you do just that.

It’s very similar to quick connect system 271, but this integrated temperature sensor is better suited for passenger cars. It provides temperature signal between -40°C and +120°C with an accuracy of ±1 percent at 25°C. Its compact size makes it easy to incorporate directly into a connector, or another thermal management component.

Key properties include:

  • Application: Thermal management and coolant systems
  • Accuracy: ±1 percent at 25°C
  • Sensor operating temperature: -40°C to +120°C
  • Resistance at 25°C: 10,000 ohms
  • Sensor housing material: Plastic
  • Overall weight: 5.5 g
  • Production: High-volume series product
